Terms of use
These terms govern your use of FederalCourtDeadlines.com, its calculators, its pages and its AI connector. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the site.
Last updated September 30, 2026.
1. What this site is
The site is a free informational tool, written and maintained by Jacob H. Katz. It computes dates from the text of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure and federal statutes, and it quotes the text it relies on. It does not know the facts of your case, the local rules of your district, the orders your judge has entered, or any stipulation between the parties.
2. Not legal advice, and no attorney-client relationship
Nothing on the site is legal advice, and nothing on it is a substitute for the judgment of a lawyer who knows your case. Using the site, reading it, emailing the error address, or using the AI connector does not create an attorney-client relationship with anyone. Do not send confidential information about a case to the site or to its email addresses.
3. Check every date yourself
You are responsible for every deadline you calendar. Before relying on a date from this site, check it against the text of the rule or statute, the local rules of your court, any standing order of the assigned judge, and any order or stipulation in your case, any of which can change it. The site does not apply local rules, chambers rules, court closure orders or state holidays, and each rule row shows whether an attorney has countersigned it. The methodology page lists what the calculators leave out.
4. No warranty
The site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness, currency, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. Rules and statutes are amended, and the site may not reflect a change on the day it takes effect. The site may be unavailable, may contain errors, and may change or stop without notice.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, neither the site nor its maintainer is liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or your reliance on anything it shows, including a missed or miscalculated deadline, a lost claim or defense, sanctions, or any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages, even if advised that such loss was possible. Where the law does not allow a limit this broad, liability is limited to the smallest amount the law permits.
6. Acceptable use
You may use the calculators and the AI connector for any lawful purpose, including in your practice. Do not interfere with the site, overload it with automated requests, or present its output as the work of a court. You may quote and link to the site; if you republish a computed date, say where it came from.
7. Governing law and changes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. They may be updated from time to time; the date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and a material change is also listed on the changelog. Your continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
